QUINCY (WGEM) — Quincy firefighters battled a house fire Friday morning.
Crews were called to the two-story brick house at 730 North 5th Street at about 7:45 a.m.
At 8:15 a.m. crews were still on scene concentrating their efforts on the second floor and smoke was visible coming from the windows of the second floor.
The 700 and 800 blocks of N. 5th Street were blocked off to traffic.
Deputy Quincy Fire Chief Steve Salrin said two people and their pets were able to get out of the second floor on their own.
Salrin said the house serves as an apartment with approximately five people living in the home in total.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and it is unknown if residents will be able to return at this point, Salrin said.
