High water closes Evandy’s Boatel along Illinois River

In the town of Naples, high water along the Illinois river has forced Evandy’s Boatel to close down.

Co-owner Charlie Evans said they managed to get through the dinner rush last night, by getting the people into the restaurant by golf cart.

However, after the water rose further, he said they had to close. He said they will be closed for Mother’s Day which hurts the business.

“We already started canceling for Mother’s Day, which is one of the biggest days of the year,” Evans said. “We’re prepared for it. We got everything out in time. We’ve been open for seven years and this is probably seven or eight floods we’ve been through, so we’re getting used to it, but you know, we’ve got employees out of work.”

Evans said they built the basement to accommodate floods, so water doesn’t get in. He said it’s unknown when they will reopen and they will sandbag if it gets too high.
