Winchester grade school evacuated due to bomb threat

WINCHESTER, IL (WGEM) — The Winchester grade school in Winchester, Illinois, was evacuated on Wednesday due to a bomb threat from a student.

Winchester Police Chief George Lindsey said a student made a bomb threat in the morning before school. He said a student notified them of the threat and the school was evacuated at approximately 11 a.m.

Lindsey said the students were evacuated from the school and taken to a nearby church.

The Secretary of State bomb squad was brought to the school to sweep the building, according to Lindsey. He said no threat was found and the students returned to the school at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Lindsey said the student who made the threat is in custody.
