College graduation is usually an exciting time for students, but one Western Illinois University student had a different experience.
Kiersten Deutsch, a Law Enforcement and Justice Administration master’s student at WIU, was set to graduate on Friday. During the graduate commencement she suffered a minor medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital.
That didn’t stop her from receiving her diploma, however. WIU School of LEJA Director, Jill Myers, brought the ceremony to Deutsch in the hospital, where she was given her diploma.
“I’m grateful to be associated with a university who cares so much about their students,” Deutsch said.
Deutsch is moving on to the Department of Homeland Security as a criminal investigator.
