As rain rolls through the Tri-States, you’ll want to make sure you keep up with your sump pump.
Insurance officials said it’s important to have sump pump insurance, especially if you have a finished basement.
They said sump pumps can go out when there’s flash flooding and it’s important to have your personal belongings or other damage insured.
“Any property owner can get flood insurance as long as your community is in the flood zone,” Insurance Agent Casey Casey said. “But sump pump is a special endorsement so it’s got to be an endorsement on your home so its not technically covered if you don’t have that endorsement. ”
Officials said sump pump insurance also covers back up of sewage and drains.
