Dog attacks three in Fort Madison

FORT MADISON (WGEM) — A dog attacked three people in Fort Madison on Friday.

Fort Madison Chief of Police Tim Sittig told WGEM News that officers responded to the report of a dog attack in the 100 block of Ave. C.

Sittig said upon arrival officers encountered a man in the yard of the residence being attacked by a male brown boxer.

Sittig said officers had to shoot and kill the dog to end the attack.

Police discovered that three people had been injured in the attack.

  • A 5 year old female had been bitten on the cheek.
  • A 33 year old male had suffered multiple bite wounds to his arms and legs and later died at the hospital.
  • A 49 year old male suffered superficial wounds and possibly a stress related cardiac emergency.

All three victims were transported to the Fort Madison Community Hospital for treatment.

Sittig said the dog was seized and taken to Park View Animal Clinic as evidence.

Officers are currently investigating the incident to determine what happened.

Sittig said there is no other information available at this time.
