Arrest made in Pittsfield following vehicle thefts

PITTSFIELD, IL (WGEM) — A Wisconsin man has been arrested in Pittsfield, Illinois, following reports of vehicle thefts in the area.

Police Chief Michael Starman has reported the arrest of Kyle Heckinger,18, of Wisconsin. Heckinger has been charged with the theft of two motor vehicles.

Starman stated that on Tuesday, officers with the Pittsfield Police Department responded to two separate reports of stolen vehicles on the northwest side of Pittsfield.

Starman reported that both stolen vehicles were recovered and Heckinger was apprehended by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office near the scene where one of the stolen vehicles had crashed northwest of Pittsfield.

Starman stated that numerous other reports of vehicle burglaries have also been reported and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office has also responded to numerous vehicle burglaries and attempted vehicle thefts in rural Pittsfield.

According to Starman, additional charges against Heckinger are likely for burglary and theft.

Residents that live along West Lowry Street and Sunset Drive are asked to check their vehicles for theft.
