Dallas City, Illinois Mayor Kevin Six said they’re staying as prepared as possible by continuing sandbagging efforts in case water starts rising again.
Mayor Six said with the river falling they’re still utilizing inmates from the Clayton Work Camp to fill sandbags to keep their stock high in case more are needed if there is more rain in the coming days. He said he thinks many parts of the town should receive federal assistance for the damages.
“There are probably at least 10 or 12 maybe even 14 houses here in town that should’ve qualified for buy-outs in 2008, but it just didn’t happen,” said Mayor Six.
Six said the federal government should look closely at Northeastern Illinois and Southern Iowa, as the damages they face in some places are as bad as other areas in the country that have received disaster declarations.
