Alongside Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, many county and state officials addressed flood problems in their departments Tuesday afternoon, like agriculture.
Illinois Department of Agriculture Director John Sullivan said tens of thousands of acres are being protected by levees.
He said for the farmers out there fighting to protect that land, or dealing with flooded fields, it’s important they take care of crop insurance, before they run out of time.
“There are some really critical federal crop insurance dates that are fast approaching,” Sullivan said. “They need to talk to their federal insurance agents to make sure if they want to, if they aren’t going to be able to get a crop in this year, they need to report that to the federal crop insurance.”
He said if you need assistance, dates or help with anything else in the crop insurance process, to contact the Department of agriculture.
