Keokuk/Hamilton bridge open to traffic again

HAMILTON, IL (WGEM)  — The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that the bridge that carries U.S. 136 over the Mississippi River between Hamilton and Keokuk reopened at 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The bridge had been closed since May 29 due to flooding.

I-DOT opened one lane in each direction but officials stated that standing water may still be present on the Hamilton approach, so drivers should use extra caution.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
