The best of the best from the prep hardwood representing Missouri and Illinois will once again tip-off this Saturday evening on the QU campus at Pepsi Arena.

The annual McDonald’s/Herald-Whig Classic has offered area basketball fans an opportunity to see some of the top graduating seniors in action one final time on both the boys and girls hardwood.

Monday afternoon at Highland High, the Missouri girls All-Star team held their first practice in preparation for the 37th Summer showdown between the two states.

Missouri leads the all-time series against Illinois 19 to 17, but it’s been all Illinois as of late with the Illinois all-star’s winning six out of the last seven head to head matchups.

Right now the ladies from the show me state are very excited to have a chance to team up with players they’ve respected from opposing teams for a number of years.

Highland’s Kennedy Flanagan said, “Me and Audrey Fohey have always played against each other and she’s always kind of been my rival.

And I’ve always had a lot of competitive spirit with her so I’m kind of excited to get to play on the same team as her.”

Palmyra’s Audrey Fohey added, “So I’ve been against Laken (Hugenberg) and Kennedy and Kaitlin (Benson).

I remember playing against them when I was like in the third grade.

So all those years, so it’s really exciting to be able to play with them.”
