Quincy University All-American baseball standout Cody Birdsong is a “Happy Hawk” tonight in the Sunshine State.
WGEM Sports has learned that the Poplar Bluff, Missouri product signed a 6-year contract with the Atlanta Braves this morning.
The move comes after the National League East franchise drafted Birdsong in the 32nd Round last Wednesday.
The former QU and Gems second baseman arrived in Florida on Sunday to prepare for his 1st day of action on the pro diamond as a part of the Braves organization.
Cody’s day started at 5:40 a-m in Orlando.
Birdsong was examined by two different doctor’s before signing his contract this morning.
He was medically cleared for on the field activities by team physicians.
Birdsong did not want to discuss specific contract numbers or bonus info today–but he did state he considered his contract “very good” for a college senior.
Birdsong did go through light drills on the diamond today as well.
Cody stated that the fields and facilities are the best he’s ever seen!
Birdsong, who was drafted 967th overall last week in the MLB Draft, has not received any official assignment at this time by Atlanta.
Cody has received “unofficial” indication by Braves officials that he may be slated for the Appalachian League to start his pro baseball career.
The All-GLVC infielder also stated that today, was the craziest experience he’s ever been a part of.
