The countdown is underway for the 46th Annual Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships.
Action starts on Sunday at the Westview Golf Course.
That’s when the parent child tournament gets underway on the fairways Sunday will be a great way to spend Father’s Day for many of the competitors.
Leading the way since the event’s inception is it’s founder and executive director Nan Ryan.
Ryan has seen a bevy of talent come through Quincy over the years from the likes to Rory Mcllroy to Quincy’s own Luke Guthrie.
The Quincy high grad will be competing in this weekend’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
The fighting Illini product got his start at little people’s and Ryan even remembers giving a very young Guthrie one of his first golf lessons.
Ryan quickly recognized that Guthrie was destined for big things.
Ryan said, “You knew he was going to be good.
I mean you see some of these kids and you think well you know they’re going to be country club players but then there’s some you see, that they’re going to go on.
One thing I told him was stop trying to hit it so hard and try to keep it in the fairway.
