Work on the McMasters Avenue MoDOT project in Hannibal is months behind schedule.
A portion of the southbound lanes on McMasters in front of Hannibal High School have been repaved but crews have yet to touch the northbound lanes.
The $5 million project was supposed to be complete last October but a wet fall and cold winter shut down any hopes of completing paving work until this spring.
MoDOT officials said more wet cool weather along with flooding has delayed the work even further.
“It’s a little frustrating because a lot of people call and want to know what’s going on, this and that. They see things kind of start to happen and then slow down but it’s just the nature of the beast. You have to go with it. Mother Nature has her own schedule and she doesn’t care what anyone else things so trying to play by her schedule gets a little tight at times,” said resident engineer Martin Lincoln.
Lincoln said they hope to have the entire project wrapped up by the end of July or early August.
He said you will see crews out along McMasters at night starting at 8 p.m. until about 6 a.m. That’s when most of the paving work will take place. They say they hope to start back up on that process Thursday night.
