Center police chief reinstated

CENTER, MO (WGEM) – City leaders in Center, Missouri voted to reinstate the city’s police chief Wednesday night, nearly a week after the Board of Aldermen voted to fire him.

Mayor Dennis McMillen said the board held a vote to reinstate Chief David Ray Wednesday evening.  The board was split on the issue, with a 2 to 2 vote, but McMillen broke the tie by voting to reinstate Ray.

Last week’s move sparked controversy because one of the aldermen wasn’t there. There were concerns that the move also broke at least two state laws, including the Sunshine Law, and a law that determines the process required to fire a police chief.

McMillen stated the move takes effect immediately.
