Deadly crash closes Highway 36 eastbound near Monroe City

MONROE CITY, MO (WGEM) — Both lanes of Highway 36 Eastbound from Stoddard St. to Highway Z near Monroe City, Missouri, were closed Wednesday afternoon due to a deadly traffic crash.

The crash was near Mosswood Meadows Golf Course on Highway 36.

The Monroe City Police Department stated that access to Highway 36 from Stoddard St. was also closed.

The crash involved a white pickup truck and a semi.

The police department announced the closure around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Marion County Coroner, Richard Jones told WGEM News that a husband and wife were in the pickup truck. The wife, who was driving died at the scene. The husband died later at the hospital.

They’ve been identified as 77-year-old Janie Goodwin and 72-year-old Earl Goodwin of Novinger, Missouri.

Missouri State Highway Patrol was still on the scene investigating.
