Elder’s website says they employ approximately 25 full and part time people.

Calls from WGEM News to Elder’s Family Restaurant were not immediately returned.

Several former employees of the restaurant shared on Facebook Tuesday that the closure was permanent.

I was a current employee and we had a sit down today. Unfortunately time has not been friendly to our building and the damage is just to severe to be fixed. Because they care so much about the customers as well as employees they decided it was no longer safe. As of now I know no plans to reopen anywhere else. I thank Jerry and Tim for they 38 years of great food and memories and I hope they see all the wonderful comments I’ve seen today! Thank u all for your years of loyalty to this wonderful business,” stated Brittany Galbraith on Facebook.

According to their website, Elder’s has been operating in their current location since 1970. Prior to that the restaurant was originally called Elder’s Drink Spot and was located on North 6th St. in downtown Quincy. That location opened in the mid 1950’s.

Their website states that the building at 1800 State St. has been a restaurant since the 1940’s.
