Keokuk Riverfront Barge recovered after breaking away

Tuesday night many Keokuk residents reported that the riverfront barge broke off and floated down the Mississippi River towards Warsaw, Illinois and Canton, Missouri.

Lee County Sheriff Stacey Weber says he was aware of the reports, and says the barge is the property of the city of Keokuk and has long been looked at for commercial development.

No injuries were reported.

UPDATE: According to Keokuk Area News Update, as of 10:35 pm, The barge has been recovered and is currently docked at Roquette’s terminal.
