Riverview Park in Fort Madison reopens after flooding

Riverview Park in Fort Madison is back open just in time for the 4th of July,  after being flooded for weeks.

Fort Madison City Manager David Varley said the water left behind a lot of debris and six inches of mud. He said crews have been working to remove the logs and garbage, along with cleaning up the mud so people can enjoy the holiday weekend.

“We’ve got our entire parks crew out there and we have five people from our streets crew working eight hour days down there trying to get it all cleaned up for the 4th of July,” Varley said.

He said there are still some soggy spots in the grass that are filled with mud, so be cautious if you choose to sit on the grass.
