Fence painting draws big crowd in Hannibal

At National Tom Sawyer Days Friday and Saturday is the annual fence painting competition.

Organizers said people of all ages from all around the country come to compete. Competitors are judged on their costume, time, and how well they paint the fence. Contestants always get messy in the process, but organizers said it’s always a blast to watch.

“It’s important for the community because we draw a lot of tourists in for this, it’s free to anybody to do it from around the united states, they come in, register for free, we draw more people in to help out the community,” said Hannibal Jaycees Fence Painting Chairman Amy Allen.

Friday was the kids day, the over 30 events are Saturday. It’s free to come to participate and
registration begins at 1 p.m.
