Sodalis night hikes start for first time this season after flooding

After months of flooding and clean up, people are finally able to walk the trails at Sodalis Nature Preserve for the first time since April.

This Friday night at 8 p.m. will be the first night hike that Hannibal Parks and Rec will be hosting for this season. Hikers typically learn about the types of bats living in the preserve, and now that they’ve cleared some of the debris left by the flood the trail is hikable again. However, this Saturday 8-11 a.m. there will be more clean up efforts in the park.

“They’re going to do more clean up here with stream team and Hannibal Parks and Rec, so they’ve done a lot and we’ll be able to have the night hike just fine, but there’s more to do,” said Interpreter Guide for Hannibal Parks and Rec Gale Rublee.

If you’re interested in participating in the night hike Friday or clean up this Saturday, Hannibal Parks and Recreation officials said to give them a call at (573) 221-0154 or e-mail in advance.
