HANNIBAL (WGEM) — The Hannibal Free Public Library remains closed due to air conditioning issues.
Library officials say two out of the five air conditioning units on the roof, dating back to the 1980’s, failed earlier this spring.
Instead of just replacing the two and possibly having similar issues with the other units, officials just decided to replace all five.
In order to do that, the library had to close at noon on Thursday.
“We realized when we looked at the temperature in the room where the servers are kept that when it got to be the afternoon we would have to close because the servers wouldn’t be functional,” said Hallie Yundt Silver with the Hannibal Free Public Library.
Yundt Silver says a private donor gave about a third of the money for the repairs. The rest is being paid for by the library’s capital outlay budget.
UPDATE: Library officials announced Friday that the library would remain closed until Saturday at 10 a.m. due to the air-condition repairs.
