QUINCY – Despite the hot July temperatures, the Spring Lake Country Club bathing beach will be closed while staff battle a bug invasion.

Officials said the beach will be closed for the next few days as staff exterminate thousands of mayflies covering the beach area.

They said skimming isn’t working so they’re replacing and re-treating the water.

Club staff said they want everyone to know there’s nothing wrong with the water itself.

“Any time you close a pool and just say it’s because of water quality, I think that’s where people’s minds go to,” SLCC assistant manager Danielle Gorder said. “But this is just an act of Mother Nature, she likes to keep us on our toes.”

Officials said they’re not sure when they’ll reopen the beach.

Staff said dead bugs like these were in the water and covered the grounds
