Hannibal councilman looks for funding to fix Martin Street

A Hannibal councilman is working with state and city leaders to fix a storm water system failure.
Last month, Hannibal City Council voted to close Martin Street because a storm sewer failure created problems with the roadway there.
4th Ward councilman Alan Bowen is working with leaders to secure a block grant to fund repairs to that storm sewer and street.

“Now the emergency vehicles, street department, police, and everybody has to assume different routes now instead of using martin street. So all the citizens over there have to travel different roads to get to work and anything we can do to speed up the process, I’m all game for,” said Bowen.

Bowen said the application for the grant is extensive and he doesn’t expect to hear back from the state until next spring.
