Fencing around some trees in downtown Hannibal will be put up soon.
The Hannibal Tree Board recently decided they will put fences around the base of trees that line Main Street.
The tree board president, Kristy Trevathan, said the fences are necessary because of safety concerns for both people and the tree itself.
“We thought the decorative fence was more attractive but it was also more beneficial to reduce trip hazards,” said Trevathan. “It also allows us to keep it clean around it and re-mulch and water.”
Trevathan is not sure when the fences will be installed but she hopes by the end of the summer. They will cost $250 each and she says that is within their budget for this year.
