Julian Castro rallies support in Keokuk

KEOKUK (WGEM) – Presidential candidate Julian Castro stopped in the Tri-States to try and rally voters ahead of the September debates on Monday.

People packed the Keokuk Labor Temple to hear Castro speak.

Castro laid out his goals for the country saying he wants to make america the quote “smartest, fairest, healthiest and prosperous nation in the world.

He said his policies such as police reform, increased access to education, raising the minimum wage and addressing climate change are the best way to get there.

“It’s time for a new vision with new energy and time for a president that understands that we need to move forwards as one nation with one destiny in this 21 century,” he said.

When asked why he was the best choice for the presidency, Castro pointed to his time as secretary of Housing and Urban Development under then-president Barack Obama and his tenure as San Antonio mayor .
