On the high school diamond in Southeast Iowa this evening, the Hawks of Central Lee played host to Chariton in district semifinal action.
In the top of the first inning, The Chargers of CHS had runners on second and third when Hawks starting pitcher Waylon Whyrather used his fastball to lock up a
strikeout to close out the inning and end the scoring threat. Later in the bottom of the first inning, Tyler Hopp hit a lead-off single to left field for CLHS.
With runners at second and third, Central Lee’s Luke Simmons puts one right through the legs of the Chargers shortstop, allowing Tyler Hopp and KJ Skow to score.
At that point, Central Lee surged to a 3-1 lead over CHS. In the bottom of the second inning, TJ Stutes belted an RBI single to give the Hawks a 3 run lead.
Central Lee goes to to cruise to a 10-0 victory on their home turf in 5 innings. Central Lee will now compete for a district crown on Saturday.
