A teenager drowned in Mark Twain Lake Friday evening, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The victim’s grandmother identified him as Kamerion Rice, 17, of Springfield, Illinois. She said Rice was out with friends on a boat when the drowning happened.

Troopers on scene said they were called to the Ray Behrens Campground in rural Ralls County, Missouri, around 7 p.m. Ray Behrens is located on the southeastern shores of Mark Twain Lake.

Investigators said Rice was wading near the shoreline about a 1/2 mile north of Black Jack Marina, walked out to deeper water and was unable to swim. Troopers said Rice was not wearing a life jacket.

Troopers said Rice’s body was recovered at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, after teams spent hours searching in the water.
