Hannibal police investigate reported shooting

HANNIBAL, Mo. – Police were investigating a reported shooting in Hannibal Saturday evening, but they were unsure if anyone was actually shot.

Officers said they were called to 18 Settlers Trail at approximately 5:30 p.m. Officers said they learned a fight occurred and two people were taken by private vehicle to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they were not able to substantiate the shooting claim, but the investigation is ongoing.

Officers could be seen processing the scene, using metal detectors and leaving several markers on the ground.

Neighbors said they didn’t hear gunshots, but they did see a car speed away from the house.

They said it’s a quiet neighborhood and are surprised to have something like this happen, but neighbor Danny Dyke said recent activity is making him uncomfortable.

“It kind of sets me uneasy with stuff like this going on,” Dyke said. “Just recently, not long ago, a vehicle ran up into the house up the road. Makes me a little uncomfortable thinking stuff like this is happening so close to me.”
