Illinois state officials tour manufacturers in Quincy

State officials spent Tuesday in Quincy, touring manufacturers and plants in an effort to see what’s happening in the local industries.

Acting Director of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Erin Guthrie toured Gatesair plant Tuesday afternoon.

She said the purpose of the tour is to meet local community members, business leaders and worker groups.

“We know for example that manufacturing employers really want to hire more workers, but they just can’t seem to find them,” Guthrie said. “So we’re working on programs that can help make better matches to help build that skill development and match workers to jobs.”

Moving forward, Guthrie said she will incorporate what she learns today into an economic plan for the next four years.

She said they plan to build a road map for each region by feedback she gets from the local community.
