Hannibal man arrested for assaulting a police officer

HANNIBAL (WGEM) — A Hannibal man was arrested Sunday after he hit a police officer in the back of the head with a glass bottle, police said.

Hannibal Police said they responded at 12:31 a.m. to the 100 block of North Main St. where multiple callers had reported a fight in progress.

Officers said they found a large group of people in the area and while investigating an officer was struck in the back of the head with what is believed to be a glass bottle.

The officer sustained injuries and was transported by another officer to Hannibal Regional Hospital.

James Brothers, 36, of Hannibal was arrested and placed on a 24 hour hold for assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.

A warrant for Brothers was issued Sunday by the Marion County Associate Court for Assault 2nd Degree (Special Victim) and Resisting Arrest. The bond was set at $50,000 cash only.
