WIU Football Racking Up Preseason Honors Ahead of Opening Kickoff

Just over an hour north of the Gem City in Macomb the Leathernecks of Western Illinois start action in less than a month on August 29th at North Alabama and as the excitement for the first games continues to mount so do the preseason honors for the Leathernecks.

While WIU continues to grind through the preseason, Phil Steele’s annual college football magazine preview highlighted several Leathernecks including fullback Clint Ratkovich who made first team for both the FCS All-America and All-Missouri Valley football conference teams.

The Leathernecks captain is the lone WIU first team returner coming into the season.

Several other players made headway as well including defensive lineman LaCale London on Second team All-MVFC and senior wide receiver John Brunner and senior line backer Zach Glisan both made third team all-MVFC.

If you want to hear more about the Leathernecks, tune in Thursday morning with Broc and Ryan on WGEM Sports Center as they chat with WIU head coach Jared Elliott.

Tune in from 7-9 am on 1440 am or 98.9 fm as the guys chop it up with the Necks head man as they get closer and closer to that August 29th kickoff at North Alabama.
