QPS teachers head back to school

QUINCY, IL (WGEM) — As Quincy Public schools students prepare for the first day of school, teachers were back on Wednesday.

School officials said teachers and staff gathered to celebrate and to kick off the 2019-2020 school year. Superintendent Roy Webb held the first staff assembly of the new year. He said there’s a lot of changes this year, especially now that all five new elementary schools are finished.

“The transition is complete, the buildings are looking sharp, our brand new buildings are ready to go,” said Webb. “So, we think we’re ready to really have a great year.”

Junior High School Principal Ben Sparrow said teachers are making final preparations to make sure they are ready for students to return Thursday.

“We look forward to it and greet them with a smile and hopefully have a great 2019-2020 school year,” said Sparrow.

The first full day will be next week. Thursday and Friday are early dismissal days.
