Palmyra car fire shuts down highway, no injuries reported

PALMYRA, Mo. – A car fire shut down both lanes of Highway 168 in Palmyra Sunday afternoon.

Palmyra Volunteer Fire Department chief Gary Crane said it happened when a man ran off the road trying to get his air conditioning system to work.

Chief Crane said the car somehow caught fire and became fully engulfed.

The man was able to get everyone out of the car before they were hurt.

First responders shut down both lanes of the highway for around 15 to 20 minutes until the smoke cleared.

Chief Crane said fire crews were assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County Ambulance.
