Law enforcement officials in Pike County Illinois say recent home invasions serve as a good reminder to keep your doors locked.
Pike County sheriff David Greenwood said residents need to stay aware at all times to possibly avoid situations like this.
He said although some are unavoidable, it’s important to keep your house and cars locked up at all times.
He also suggest having a security system or cameras around all entrances.
“One of the actual best and simplest ways to stop a burglary or a crime is lights,” Greenwood said. “Make sure your property is lit up. A light is a big deterrent of criminals.”
Greenwood said aside from the string of house invasions, he’s seen a recent uptick of burglaries throughout the county.
He said if you ever see anything suspicious, to contact the police immediately.
