QUINCY, Il. – Hundreds showed up to buy unused school furniture from Quincy Public Schools Saturday afternoon.
Organizers said they sold over 500 items from Adams and Berrian Elementary schools.
They said everyone from the general public to local and surrounding area teachers came out to buy something.
A Payson Elementary teacher said sales like these can be big boost for local educators.
“A lot of items are either hard to find or they’re extremely expensive and it’s just good to be able to know that if you come to a school you’re finding something that was used in the classroom you get it for a pretty good price,” first grade teacher Celsey West said.
West said she will used the bookshelves she bought to display different themed books each month for her students.
Organizers said proceeds will go to social-emotional support programs at Denman Elementary.
