Quincy man who stabbed son on Father’s Day sentenced

QUINCY (WGEM) — A Quincy man accused of stabbing his son outside his home on Father’s Day last year has been sentenced.

Court records state that Jay Schroder, 63, received 152 days of Periodic Imprisonment and 30 months probation at a sentencing hearing on Tuesday. Schroder received credit for 28 days of jail time already served.

Schroder, 63, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and one count of Aggravated Battery/Use of a Deadly Weapon. A charge of Aggravated Domestic Battery was dismissed.

Police said Schroder stabbed his son outside his home at 1709 Sycamore on June 17, 2018.

Officers said they found Schroder’s son with a puncture wound to the upper shoulder/chest area and a laceration to the forehead. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Blessing Hospital.

Schroder’s next court appearance is set for February 6 at 9 a.m.
