Hannibal is looking for people who want to send a message to the future, specifically the year 2069, as they look for letters for their Bicentennial time capsule.
Hannibal Parks and Recreation officials said the letter could be to a loved one, the people of Hannibal, or even just the future you. They’re also looking for companies, organizations, clubs, or churches who want to add lists of their employees or members and a group photo. Mary Lynne Richards from Hannibal Parks and Rec said like with the sesquicentennial time capsule opened earlier this year, letters are a fun way to document the historical moment we live in.
“They did it for the last time capsule, and we think it would be really neat to write a letter to your grandchildren, or the citizens of Hannibal, maybe tell what life is like now and give good wishes to the future,” said Richards.
All submissions should be sent to or dropped off at Hannibal city hall before 5 PM on October 18th. The 2069 time capsule will be closed on October 26th. Letters should be submitted in an unsealed envelope, the items can be sent to Hannibal Parks & Recreation, 2069 Time Capsule, 320 Broadway, Hannibal, Mo. 63401 or brought into City Hall.
