Week 3 of the high school football season is now just 48 hours away across the Tri-States’.
For Quincy Notre Dame head coach Jack Cornell and his (2-0) squad, despite all the fanfare on campus surrounding the teams quick start, the Raiders remain focused on the mission ahead.
That mission of course is taking on (2-0) Peoria Central this Football Friday Night at Advance Physical Therapy Field.
The Raiders are coming off a 21-17 win last week at home against Rock Island Alleman while the Lions beat Peoria Notre Dame last week on their home turf 56-30.
Right now, as expected, confidence is high in the Raiders camp, but QND isn’t overconfident with a very talented team headed to campus on Friday.
“Big game on Friday, really good opponent, Peoria High has done a lot of good things offensively the last few years, and we know we’ve got our work cut out for us.”
Coach Cornell went on to add, “If our guys work hard this week, we feel we have a good shot! This week we’re going to have to raise the bar a little bit with Peoria coming in. We don’t have
time to rest on our laurels, we have to get after it, and go to work and get the job done!”
Junior quarterback Ike Wiley meanwhile continues to showcase his skills on the turf this season, as both a solid signal caller and passer on the turf, as well as a team leader.
Wiley threw for 100 yards and had a 34 yard touchdown strike against the Pioneers last week at home. Wiley took a quick timeout from drills to share a few thoughts on facing PC.
“We know they’re very athletic and very fast, they’re gonna hit you hard.”
Wiley also stated, “They’re a hard nosed team, I think we just need to come out and get the momentum early and try to get up on them early and hopefully they’ll fall apart.”
The Raiders and PC will hit the gridiron Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
