QUINCY – A man is behind bars after an attempted armed home invasion Saturday morning.

According to the Quincy Police Department, officers responding to the 1300 block of North 4th Street, found 41-year-old Ryan Stanton unconscious.

Police credit the resident for delivering the knockout blow.

They said while this situation turned out well, it’s not always the best idea to handle a home invasion that way.

“If you’re able to, I would recommend getting away from that person, calling 9-1-1,” said Sgt. Nathan Elbus. “But if push comes to shove, and a person is entering your house and you have to defend yourself in your house, you’re in your full legal rights to do that.”

Stanton was charged with illegal possession of a firearm by a felon and was taken to Blessing Hospital for his injuries before going to the Adams County Jail.

Police said the incident wasn’t a random attack.
