Work is underway to extend the life of a couple of well traveled northeast Missouri bridges.
MoDOT contracted out work to repaint three bridges, two of which are in Hannibal.
Officials said the bridges are already decades old but work like this will help preserve the structures to get more use out of them.
“This one compared to other bridges does not get as much salt on the bridge deck because it doesn’t have as much traffic but just being out in the elements for that many years requires some preventative maintenance to extend the life of them,” said MoDOT Assistant District Engineer Kevin James.
The work on the three bridges will take place over the course of the next couple of months.
There could be lane closures at times during painting, but for the most part, the bridges should remain open.
