QPS auctions off three of five properties

QUINCY – Quincy Public Schools auctioned off three unused properties Saturday.

The old Berrian School sold for $150,000 while the empty lot nearby sold for $31,000.

The former Ellington Elementary sold for $41,000.

The former Madison and Adams buildings had $200,000 bid minimums.

They didn’t get any bids.

QPS officials said they aim to have the properties sold sooner rather than later.

“That way over the winter we’ll be reducing a lot of maintenance costs, heating and cooling costs, security costs, and other people can start re-purposing these buildings to do good things for the community,” QPS superintendent Roy Webb said.

QPS officials said the board will discuss what’s next for the unsold buildings at their meeting Monday.
