There’s a new way to fight hunger in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.
It comes in the form of a blessing box outside of First Christian Church on Washington Street.
Pastor Steve Surratt said he saw this being done in surrounding communities and thought it would be a great addition to Mt. Sterling.
He said this will always serve as an option for people who need food, if actual food pantries are closed or out of food.
“This box is to bless anyone in need, whatever their need is, whatever their emergency is and the community, if you look inside the box, the box is overstocked right now,” Surratt said. “In fact, we’ve put some stuff in the church because the community has given and we know people have taken out. That’s the fun part.”
Families in need can just drop by and grab whatever food they need. You can also donate anytime by dropping non-perishable food in the box.
Surratt said they also put a blessing box at their church in Clayton, Illinois.
