Hannibal business bans use of plastic straws

A Tri-State business is no longer serving straws with their drinks.

La Azotea in downtown Hannibal is one of the first businesses in the area to move away from the use of plastic straws.

The bar and lounge stopped serving drinks with straws on October 1st.

The owner said she hopes to continue to limit plastic waste at her business.

“I just feel like this is a baby step that I’m hoping sparks with other businesses to kind of do little steps like this to get us to a better future and a plastic free world,” said owner April Azotea.

Azotea said they will still serve compostable straws to people with disabilities and children.
