Pirate Ridge Trail guided hikes show unseen side of Sodalis

Hikers got a special tour off the beaten path at Sodalis Nature Preserve Wednesday morning, as Hannibal Parks and Rec officials took them out on the Pirate Ridge Trail.

Officials said the trail was made by a class at Hannibal High School years ago, and gives hikers a chance to see much more of the park than they usually get to see on the paved areas. Hannibal Parks and Recreation Interpreter and Guide Gail Rublee said in the past people have gotten lost on the trail, which is why they’re providing guided tours.

“This park has just been so wonderful and a lot of people go on the paved trails, but with these unpaved trails you get a lot more solace in the woods and it’s just fun to get to explore these trails,” said Rublee.

If you’re interested in a guided tour, there will be another on November 17th, to RSVP, you can call 573-221-0154 or email mlrichards@hannibal-mo.gov.
