Local company proposes alternative Nauvoo Community Center design

NAUVOO, IL (WGEM) — There is an alternative option for the design of a proposed community center in Nauvoo.

Nauvoo city leaders are trying to build a multi-million dollar community center that would host a number of the city’s essential services.

Officials from the Nauvoo-based company BTE said their “Dynamic Business Option” includes a $1.4 million, 7,000 square foot community center, business center, retail vendor area and recreation area.

They said the design allows for impact on every level of the community.

“The business center makes the business impact, the community center is where all the business happens and plays and everything like that and the retail center gives small businesses an opportunity to thrive which is especially important in an adverse economy,” BTE strategic operations manager Matthew Von Trapp said.

Mayor John McCarty said BTE’s proposal has yet to be presented to the city and it is currently not being considered.

BTE officials say they’ll present their design on October 22.
