FORT MADISON (WGEM)  — Due to the significant damage at the home, Fort Madison fire officials said they will not be able to determine a fire that happened Monday night.

Crews were called to a mobile home fire at the Levi Trailer Park.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. Fire officials say two people were woken by the fire and escaped the home with their dogs.

Firefighters say the fire started in the bedroom.

“We were able to get one of the guys bill folds out, some of that kind of small stuff they are able to clean up and save,” said Lt. Neal Gathers with the Fort Madison Fire Dept.

The mobile home is a total loss.

Fire officials say they do not believe the home had working smoke detectors.
