New blue torch sculpture installed at Quincy High School

A new sculpture can be seen in front of Quincy High School, thanks to a partnership with Arts Quincy and the Moorman Foundation.

Created by artist Dan Perry out of Waterloo, Iowa, the sculpture is a 14-foot tall blue torch with a ‘Q’ on it.

This piece is the first of the Celebration of Education sculpture series. It’s something QHS Principal Jody Steinke said represents students’ education.

“The flame, you’ve got the blue devil colors reaching up or sprouting,” Steinke said. “It’s really about the kids and the seeds that education sows and the result of that is kids strive for their goals and we strive to help them reach their goals.”

Officials said the next sculpture in the series should go up at Denman Elementary by the end of the month, followed by one at Baldwin Elementary not long after.
