Woman killed in Pike County crash early Monday morning

PIKE COUNTY, IL (WGEM) —  A woman was killed and a man critically injured in a crash in Pike County, Illinois, on Monday morning.

According to a release from the Illinois State Police, at roughly 2 a.m. Shane Blair, 55, of Lansing, Illinois, was driving east on Interstate 72 near the Twin Eagles Bridges over the Illinois River.

Officials say the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, over corrected, and then lost control. The vehicle then went off the roadway to the left, striking a guardrail end on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The passenger, Misty Norris, 39, of Harvey, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County coroner.

Blair was cited for driving under the influence of drugs. He was transported by Air-Evac helicopter to Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Officials say the investigation continues, and further charges are pending.
