Just a day after beating South Dakota 38-34 for their first win of the year the Missouri Valley Football Conference added a cherry on top of the weekend for Western Illinois football when they named junior quarterback Connor Sampson the Offensive Player of the Week.
Sampson messed around and tossed a career high 368 passing yards to go with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
The 368 yards is the third most by a Missouri Valley QB this season and is 14th all time in single game WIU history.
Samspon was an efficient 31-50, those 31 completions is tied for second all-time in program history.
The 1-8 Leathernecks are hoping Samspon can carry that strong play into the last three games of the season.
Next up for WIU will be a road test at a regular confernece power, 9-0 North Dakota State.
